Tools and concepts for mainstreaming gender in aflatoxin research

This document sets out a gender strategy for work on mycotoxins, which are toxins produced by fungi, for the research carried out by the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and its partners and which is supported
by the CGIAR Research Program on Agriculture for Nutrition and Health (A4NH) and various bilateral programs.

Closing the Gender Gap in Agriculture: A Trainer’s Manual

A manual for gender practitioners and training facilitators, with  a practical strategy to assist in closing the gender gap in agriculture. The manual contains sessions developed and enhanced through feedback received during gender workshops held in multiple countries. The different sessions provide a participatory atmosphere to engage in the discussion of gender as a critically important topic for agricultural development.

Agri-ProFocus: Gender and Value Chains
An online platform for exchange of experiences and knowledge development on the subject of gender in value chains. Its is open to professionals worldwide interested in increasing the gender sensitivity of working on economic development within the perspective of sustainable rural development, particularly in a value chain approach.

Asian Development Bank Gender Checklists
Sector gender checklists have been prepared to help Asian Development Bank staff, government partners and consultants address gender issues in the design of projects across different sectors. They provide a “how to” integrate gender equality and women’s empowerment objectives in a range of sectors.

Eldis Gender Resource Guide
The Eldis Gender Resource Guide is targeted at development practitioners, decision makers, researchers, and civil society involved in incorporating gender into poverty reduction strategies and development policies. The purpose of the guide is to provide access to relevant, diverse and credible research on the role of gender equality issues in achieving development goals. It aims to inform dialogue, learning and the sharing of good practice around areas such as gender mainstreaming, measuring change, legal and policy frameworks on gender and human rights, and successful initiatives from the field.

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Gender toolkit
A database developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in support of enhanced production and use of sex-disaggregated agricultural data. It presents examples of gender relevant questions and tables jointly developed by national statisticians and FAO for agricultural censuses undertaken in Africa between 1993 and 2006.

Gender and Assets Toolkit 
A  toolkit intended to help researchers and practitioners collect, measure, and analyze gender and assets data in qualitative and quantitative evaluations for current and future projects.

International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) Gender, Livestock and Livelihood Indicators 
A reference guide of indicators that ILRI and partners can use to monitor the changing role of livestock in livelihoods in different production systems and the gendered impact of livestock‐related projects and programs.

Understanding and Integrating Gender Issues into Livestock Projects and Programmes – A checklist for practitioners
An FAO publication designed to facilitate gender analysis in programs and projects in the livestock sector. It includes two tools: a set of tips and gender analysis tools and a checklist that, through all the stages of the project cycle, guides livestock experts and professionals in designing, implementing or monitoring livestock project and programmes in a gender-sensitive way, taking into consideration the challenges faced by both women and men in livestock farming.

World Bank Gender and Agriculture Sourcebook
A source book that combines descriptive accounts of national and international experience in investing in agriculture with practical operational guidance on to how to design agriculture-for for development strategies that capitalize effectively on the unique properties of agricultural growth and rural development involving women and men as a high-impact source of poverty reduction. It looks at gender equality and women’s empowerment, and the associated principles have the potential to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of millions of rural poor.

World Bank Gender Data Portal
A one-stop shop for gender information, catering to a wide range of users and providing data from a variety of sources. Data at the country level are organized under six thematic headings, which are aligned to the themes identified by the Inter-agency and Expert Group on Gender Statistics.
